Job Overview

As an ML Data Linguist at blithequark, you will be an integral part of the AI Data Team, responsible for creating high-quality training data for AI models. Your primary focus will be on English language data, specifically in the areas of speech recognition, text annotation, and other aspects of language data quality. You will work closely with Language Engineers to develop datasets for model training, benchmarking, and evaluation, including annotation of various language datasets. The successful candidate will have a background in analyzing language data and a passion for precision and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Develop a comprehensive understanding of data collection and annotation guidelines and various annotation tools.
Annotate natural language data accurately within deadlines, adhering to guidelines.
Participate in data generation, collection, and quality assurance tasks.
Dive deep into the data to perform qualitative error pattern analysis.
Handle special data collection and analysis requests for various NLP/NLU applications.
Collaborate with other ML Data Linguists to resolve data ambiguities and annotation conflicts.
Provide feedback to Language Engineers on annotation guidelines, tooling, and processes to drive improvements.
Dive deep into issues and implement solutions independently.
Contribute to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve resource utilization.
Develop a variety of language resources essential for model development, such as datasets for training and evaluation.

About the Team

The AI Data Team at blithequark is responsible for delivering high-quality annotated data and a variety of language resources to ensure the optimal performance of various blithequark AI language services. These ML-based language services enable customers to quickly add intelligence to their business operations and AI applications to drive positive outcomes. As a member of this team, you will be working in a dynamic, highly collaborative environment with a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about language, AI, and machine learning.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Communication, Cognitive Science, or a related field, with a background in phonetics, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, or speech analysis.
At least six months of experience in natural language data annotation and other forms of data markup.
Native or near-native proficiency in English (US) (CEFR C1 or above).
Excellent communication, strong organizational skills with a keen eye for details.
Able to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and dynamic environment.
Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, and to accept re-prioritization as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to quickly learn new guidelines, technical concepts, and software programs.
Experience with command-line interfaces and basic Unix commands.
Familiarity with natural language processing tools.
Working knowledge of various file formats and markup languages (e.g., JSON, XML, HTML).
Knowledge of medical terminology or experience working in a medical or healthcare setting.
Passion for language, semantics, human language technology, and AI.
Basic to intermediate scripting skills in at least one of the common programming languages (Python, HTML, JavaScript).
